Kamehameha I (1758-May 8,1819) conquered the islands that are now Hawaii in 1810, with the help of the Pacific colonial powers. he also preserved the independence of Hawaii under his rule. He created the 'Law of the Splintered Paddle', which protected human rights of non-combatantsin times of battle. Before he died, Kamehameha ended human sacrifices, but executed those who broke the laws of the "kapu".
